Aspects (Drishti)
An introduction to how planets influence each other from a distance through "Drishti," or planetary sight.
What is a Planetary Aspect?
In Vedic astrology, an aspect (Drishti) is the influence that a planet casts on another planet or house. It's often described as the planet's "glance" or "sight." All planets aspect the 7th house from their position (a direct opposition). However, some planets have additional "special aspects" that give them a wider field of influence.
When a planet aspects a house, it infuses that house's affairs with its own nature. When it aspects another planet, it modifies that planet's expression.
Special Aspects of Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn
In addition to the standard 7th house aspect, the outer planets have powerful special aspects:
- Mars: Aspects the 4th and 8th houses from its position. Mars's aspect is energetic, forceful, and can bring conflict or action to the houses it influences.
- Jupiter: Aspects the 5th and 9th houses from its position. Jupiter's aspect is considered the most beneficial, bringing wisdom, expansion, and good fortune to the houses it touches.
- Saturn: Aspects the 3rd and 10th houses from its position. Saturn's aspect brings pressure, responsibility, delay, and a demand for structure and hard work to the houses it influences.
Benefic vs. Malefic Aspects
The effect of an aspect depends on the nature of the planet casting it.
- Benefic Aspects: An aspect from Jupiter or Venus is generally protective and expansive. It can soften challenges and enhance opportunities in the house or for the planet it aspects.
- Malefic Aspects: An aspect from Saturn or Mars can create struggle, conflict, or pressure. A Saturn aspect on a house may delay its results, while a Mars aspect may create fights related to its themes.
How Aspects Modify House Results
Imagine the 10th house of career is empty. If Jupiter is in the 2nd house of wealth, it casts its 9th house aspect on the 10th house. This is a highly favorable influence, suggesting that wealth and career are linked and that good fortune will support professional growth.
Conversely, if Saturn is in the 8th house of sudden events, it casts its 3rd house aspect on the 10th house. This could indicate a career path marked by sudden ups and downs, requiring great perseverance and discipline to succeed.

Note: In the current version of the Ajna Score app, planetary aspects are **not directly factored into the numerical scores** to maintain a clear and streamlined calculation model based on planetary placements and strength. The AI Vedic Insights engine, however, is aware of these principles and may reference strong aspect patterns (like a Saturn-Mars opposition) in its qualitative analysis, as this significantly impacts the interpretation of a chart. Future versions of the scoring algorithm may incorporate a weighted value for aspects.
