FAQs & Common Myths
Answering some of the most common questions and clearing up myths about Vedic astrology and its application.
Is astrology scientific?
This is a complex question. If "scientific" means conforming to the modern scientific method of controlled, repeatable experiments, then astrology as it is practiced today is not a science. It is better described as a symbolic language or a system of correlative metaphysics.
However, the term "Jyotish" means "science of light," and ancient practitioners viewed it as a divine science for understanding cosmic law. Our approach at Ajna Score is to treat it as a **data science problem**. We apply a consistent, deterministic algorithm to a set of astrological data points to produce a quantifiable output. We are testing the hypothesis that this ancient system of correlations has predictive value in modern contexts.
Is everything in life fixed or pre-destined?
No. This is a common and dangerous misunderstanding of karma and astrology. The birth chart shows the "prarabdha karma" - the results of past actions that are ripe to manifest in this life. It is a map of your tendencies, potentials, strengths, and weaknesses. It is not a rigid script.
You always have "kriyamana karma" - the ability to act in the present moment (free will). A challenging astrological period does not remove your ability to act with wisdom, caution, and discipline. In fact, knowing that a challenging period is coming gives you the opportunity to exercise your free will more effectively.
Why do two entities with the same Moon sign have different results on the same day?
Several factors cause this:
- Different Ascendants (Lagna): While the "Mood Score" (from the Moon) might be similar, the "Event Score" (from the Lagna) will be different, leading to a different final score.
- Different Dasha Periods: The most important factor. One entity might be in a powerful Jupiter Dasha (period of growth), while the other is in a challenging Saturn Dasha (period of struggle). The same daily transit will produce vastly different results depending on the long-term Dasha lord.
- Different Natal Charts: The strength and placement of planets in the birth chart are unique. A strong natal Mars will react to a Mars transit very differently than a weak natal Mars.
Why do predictions or scores change?
Scores change because the planets are always moving. The daily scores change frequently because they are heavily influenced by the fast-moving Moon. Weekly and monthly scores change as the Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Mars move through the signs. Yearly scores change when the slow-moving giants, Jupiter and Saturn, change signs. The app is a live reflection of the dynamic, ever-changing cosmic clock.
Can astrology fail?
Yes. Astrological prediction can "fail" for several reasons:
- Incorrect "Birth" Data: The entire system depends on an accurate start time and location. For public companies, we often use the time of the first trade, but this can be debated. An inaccurate birth time can lead to an incorrect Ascendant and a flawed chart.
- Complexity: A chart has a nearly infinite number of combinations and influences. An algorithm, or even a human astrologer, may prioritize one factor over another, leading to an incomplete interpretation.
- Free Will: A person or entity can consciously act against their own astrological tendencies. An individual can choose to be disciplined during a period of indulgence, changing the outcome.
- Grace/The Divine: Many spiritual traditions hold that divine intervention or grace can override karmic patterns, and therefore, astrological predictions.
Astrology is a tool for guidance and understanding probabilities. It is not an infallible oracle.
