Planets (Graha)
An overview of the nine celestial bodies used in Vedic astrology and their roles in shaping forecasts and scores within the app.
Sun (Sūrya)
Natural Significator of: The soul, self, ego, vitality, authority, leadership, government, father, and power.
Behavior: Considered a "mild malefic" (Krura Graha). It is fiery and separating in nature but provides leadership and confidence. Its benefic or malefic nature depends heavily on its placement and the ascendant.
Speed: Moves approximately 1 degree per day.
Controls Life Areas: Career, public status, health, and personal identity.
How this is used in our app:
In scoring, the Sun is crucial for determining monthly trends and leadership capacity. A strong Sun contributes positively to the "Event Score," indicating executive action and recognition.
Moon (Chandra)
Natural Significator of: The mind, emotions, the public, mother, nurturing, liquids, and general well-being.
Behavior: A natural benefic when bright (waxing) and a mild malefic when dark (waning). It is highly receptive and reflects the qualities of planets influencing it.
Speed: Fastest moving "planet," changing signs every ~2.5 days. Its speed makes it the primary trigger for daily events.
Controls Life Areas: Mental state, public sentiment, home life, and daily routines.
How this is used in our app:
The Moon is the cornerstone of our daily scoring. The "Mood Score" is calculated entirely from the Moon's perspective, making it the most heavily weighted planet for short-term forecasts.
Mars (Maṅgala)
Natural Significator of: Energy, action, courage, competition, conflict, logic, engineering, brothers, and ambition.
Behavior: A natural malefic. It is fiery, impulsive, and can be destructive, but it also provides the drive and courage needed to achieve goals.
Speed: Moves through a sign in about 45 days.
Controls Life Areas: Competition, career ambitions, conflicts, energy levels, and technical projects.
How this is used in our app:
Mars is a key driver in weekly and monthly scores, especially for sports and competitive scenarios. A well-placed Mars provides a high score for action and initiative, while a poorly-placed one can indicate conflict.
Mercury (Budha)
Natural Significator of: Intellect, communication, data, commerce, analysis, humor, and adaptability.
Behavior: A natural benefic, but it is mutable and takes on the nature of the planets it is with. It can act as a malefic if associated with malefic planets.
Speed: Fast-moving, changing signs approximately every 25 days. It often travels close to the Sun.
Controls Life Areas: Business deals, communication, financial markets, learning, and travel.
