Antardasha
The sub-period within a Mahadasha in the Vimshottari Dasha system. It fine-tunes the theme set by the Mahadasha lord.
Ascendant
See Lagna.
Ashtakavarga
A complex system that assigns points to each house based on the positions of the planets, indicating how favorable a transit through that sign will be. Used in the app to calculate the "Environment" score for a planet.
Aspect
See Drishti.
Avasta
The "state" or "condition" of a planet (e.g., happy, agitated, proud), which provides a qualitative layer to its interpretation.
Benefic
A planet that generally brings positive results, such as Jupiter and Venus. Its effect is always contextual.
Bhāva
A house in the astrological chart. There are 12 houses, each representing different areas of life.
Chandra Lagna
The technique of reading a chart by treating the Moon's sign as the first house or Ascendant. This app uses Chandra Lagna for its "Mood Score."
Combustion
A state where a planet is too close to the Sun, causing it to become weak and its significations to be "burned up."
Dasha
A planetary period, a unique feature of Vedic astrology that shows which planet is ruling a specific period of time.
Debilitation (Neecha)
The zodiac sign where a planet is at its weakest and struggles to give its natural results.
Drishti (Aspect)
The "glance" or influence that a planet casts on other houses or planets.
Exaltation (Ucha)
The zodiac sign where a planet is at its peak strength and gives its best results.
Gochar

Graha
A planet. In Vedic astrology, this includes the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, and the two lunar nodes, Rahu and Ketu.
House
See Bhāva.
Jyotish
The Sanskrit name for Vedic astrology, meaning "science of light."
Kendra
The angular houses (1, 4, 7, 10). These are the most powerful houses in the chart, representing the pillars of life.
Ketu
The South Node of the Moon. A shadow planet representing past karma, detachment, and spiritual insight.
Lagna
The Ascendant. The zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at the time of birth. It represents the physical body and self.
Mahadasha
The main, long-term planetary period in the Vimshottari Dasha system.
Malefic
A planet that generally brings challenging or harsh results, such as Saturn and Mars. Its effect is always contextual.
Moolatrikona
A specific portion of a planet's own sign where it is particularly powerful and effective.
Nakshatra
A lunar mansion. The zodiac is divided into 27 Nakshatras, providing a deeper layer of astrological analysis.
Pratyantardasha
The sub-sub-period within an Antardasha, used for highly detailed, short-term timing.
Rahu
The North Node of the Moon. A shadow planet representing ambition, obsession, and unconventional desires.
Rāśi
A zodiac sign. There are 12 signs in the zodiac.
Retrograde (Vakri)
The apparent backward motion of a planet. It intensifies the planet's energy and can cause delays or internalization.
Shadbala
A complex mathematical system for calculating the overall strength of a planet based on six different sources of power.
Swakshetra
The state of a planet being in its "own sign," a position of great strength and comfort.
Transit (Gochar)
The current, real-time movement of a planet in the sky, analyzed in relation to the natal chart.
Trikona
The trinal houses (1, 5, 9). These are houses of fortune, wisdom, and creativity.
Upachaya
The "houses of growth" (3, 6, 10, 11), where challenging situations improve over time and malefic planets tend to give good results.
Vimshottari Dasha
The most important and widely used 120-year planetary period system in Vedic astrology.
Yoga
A specific combination or "union" of planets that produces a defined result.
Yogini Dasha
A 36-year cycle planetary period system used for understanding more immediate karmic events.
